Day Two Hundred Twenty Six (Year Three)

Took the Our Lady Peace record with me in the car on the way to and from work today.  Somehow, before listening, I had it in my head that I wasn't a hue fan of Raine Maida's voice, but on listening to a few tracks today, I can't honestly tell you why I had that impression in my head.

Finally got around to importing a bit of the stuff we picked up on vacation.  Tonight it was:

Awake Is The New Sleep - Ben Lee
It's A Shame About Ray - The Lemonheads
Horizon - Jen. St. Stjarna

So much great music out there.  So many new discoveries all the time.  I've never understood people who stop listening after high school.  There's so much that I wold have missed out on if I closed my ears at 18.

Found something else cool tonight, too... Colin Meloy doing all 3 parts of "The Crane Wife" live on KEXP.  Youtube is cool that way.

Other cool internet somethings include T Bone Burnett discussing his influences... that was tweeted at me by the Mrs., and I'll delve more into the coolness of that sometime this weekend.  Or maybe tomorrow.

Day One Hundred Forty Two

So, I haven't been sleeping much lately, and I've been staying up late. listening to music, doing a bit of playing, and watching old episodes of Behind The Music on the internet. It's funny, you know, because I never met the rest of my "band," I've become the critic. It's all right, don't get me wrong, but for a decade now I've always hoped that I'd find a way to release something. It'll happen, I know it will, but it's continually happened slower than I expected it to. I've gotten close to getting something released, as I've documented before here before, but with the winter coming and the cold closing in, I'm facing another chance to make something musical of the winter. I'm going to start by finishing up the old things that have gotten pushed to the sides in the last few months. With the buildup of everything since the summer, it should be easier. Even if all I do is spend the winter writing lyrics, trying to g...

DayOne Hundred Sixty Nine (Year Eight)

Today was another good day.  I spent all of it with my brother, which I needed a lot, even though I just saw him over Christmas. Tonight we finally got around to some music discussion.  He took a look at my list of goals for the year, and sees it as a really good set of steps to get me where I'd like to be from where I am.  I picked his brain about a few of the nagging questions I still had as I get started, and he was able to put my mind at ease. Having a chance to sit and chat with him is always good for my musical soul, because he constantly drives me to be a better, more well rounded player, and I'm pretty sure that I can never thank him enough for all of the advice, support, and encouragement he offers every time we chat.

Day Ninety Three (Year Six)

Today was an interesting day. On one hand, it wasn't a day where I spent a ton of time in the studio, but on the other hand, it was a day where the time that I did spend in the studio was probably the most productive time I've had in a long time.  In short, even though I didn't spend all that much time working on the EP tonight, I feel like I got a whole lot closer to finishing it. I've been frustrated with myself lately for not finishing things a bit quicker, and struggling with the fact that, while I have been successful at finding a whole lot of kernels of songs, they haven't seemed to want to sprout into completed works.  Tonight, instead of freaking out and making myself more stressed out, I sat down and looked at a few favorite songs to see if I could sneak a peek behind the veil, if you will. The answers jumped out at me immediately.  I haven't been doing enough with the kernels.  Mostly, I haven't been facilitating the chord changes that will a...
