Day Two Hundred Eighty Three (Year Three)

I only had a couple of things on my list today that absolutely had to get done.  They were:

1) Obtain, and load into itunes Such Hot Blood by The Airborne Toxic Event
2) Sync and charge my ipod.

Done, and Done.

The ipod is fully charged for the first time in what feels like a long time, and the new Air Tox disc is loaded and ready to roll.  The Twitter hype has only continued to build.  Fingers crossed that it will all be true as I head out with the Mrs. for a road trip into Sioux City tomorrow.

I want to hit up MidBell to see about my poster.  They still haven't called.  The funny part?  I searched for the poster online tonight, and discovered that the company that makes it also makes another poster that I either have somewhere, or looked at often enough that I feel like I own it.  Talked to my Mom tonight to see if she remembers anything that might be hiding in the basement of her house.  She said she'd check on it and get back to me.  If it's there, I'm going to have her bring it down the next time she comes our direction.  If it isn't... I'm going to order it.

I'm also going to look and see if they have any of those stamps I found online the other day.  Seems to me that it would be easier to stumble across one there than have to order it online.  We shall see.

Also on tomorrow's list: time for playing.

Day Three

Short one today. I've got a bunch of the DVDs that Guitar World has put out. Waded through those to see what I had, worked off of the lead guitar one. Just basic scales , but still a light place to begin. It was nice to just start loosening up my fingers again. Off from work tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get a lot of playing done. Said I'd mention the other project I'm hoping to finish this year. Back when I was living in WI, I started a hard rock band with a friend of mine. She was heavily influenced by Evanescence, and so, with her as vocalist, we started writing songs. We had written and demoed almost a full album's worth of music by the time I moved to IA, and had even purchased a P.A. in preparation for eventual gigs. We never did find a permanent drummer or bassist, so our demos sound very rough (and not nearly loud enough). I'd like to finish those songs, and make an EP of the 4 or 5 strongest, just as a way to put a cap on that project. More tom...

Day One Hundred Forty Two

So, I haven't been sleeping much lately, and I've been staying up late. listening to music, doing a bit of playing, and watching old episodes of Behind The Music on the internet. It's funny, you know, because I never met the rest of my "band," I've become the critic. It's all right, don't get me wrong, but for a decade now I've always hoped that I'd find a way to release something. It'll happen, I know it will, but it's continually happened slower than I expected it to. I've gotten close to getting something released, as I've documented before here before, but with the winter coming and the cold closing in, I'm facing another chance to make something musical of the winter. I'm going to start by finishing up the old things that have gotten pushed to the sides in the last few months. With the buildup of everything since the summer, it should be easier. Even if all I do is spend the winter writing lyrics, trying to g...

Day Ninety Three (Year Six)

Today was an interesting day. On one hand, it wasn't a day where I spent a ton of time in the studio, but on the other hand, it was a day where the time that I did spend in the studio was probably the most productive time I've had in a long time.  In short, even though I didn't spend all that much time working on the EP tonight, I feel like I got a whole lot closer to finishing it. I've been frustrated with myself lately for not finishing things a bit quicker, and struggling with the fact that, while I have been successful at finding a whole lot of kernels of songs, they haven't seemed to want to sprout into completed works.  Tonight, instead of freaking out and making myself more stressed out, I sat down and looked at a few favorite songs to see if I could sneak a peek behind the veil, if you will. The answers jumped out at me immediately.  I haven't been doing enough with the kernels.  Mostly, I haven't been facilitating the chord changes that will a...
