I'd like to take a moment tonight to hit on an upcoming release that has been on my radar, and yet still somewhat under my radar for at least a month now. One of my all time favorite bands has a new record coming out on the 4th of June. That's right, kids, Grinning Streak, by Barenaked Ladies drops the first week of June.
Their last record, 2010's All In Good Time, their first without Steven Page as a member of the band, had a great first single, but on the whole left me with a "man, wait till their next record" kind of feeling. Finally got around to listening to the first single off of the new record today, it's a song called "Boomerang," and it feels like classic BNL. It's got an upbeat tempo, a clever lyric, and a strong vocal performance from Ed Robertson.
Watched 4 of their webisodes about the making of the record tonight as well, and I've got to say that watching those has only heightened my expectations. So much so that I also just pre-ordered the record. All of the clips I've heard seem to indicate a genuine return to form, and that will be awesome.
