Day Three Hundred Sixty Three (Year Five)

As it turned out, I didn't need the big run-up from last night in order to make today a productive one.

I got most of the way done with the iTunes project before I had to go into work at 11, which left me about 40 or so songs to finish off when I got done.  I polished the rest of those off after the Mrs. and I got back from an early dinner and a walk around the bookstore.

Here's where things sit with two days remaining before year six of the blog:

1) I can finally resume work on my giant list of songs to learn, which I had made really good progress on before I noticed that things were missing.

2) I feel like I'm in better shape than I have been in a while when it comes to the EP/Album.  I'm at a point where a hard charge and a bit of luck with lyrics could put me in a place to have that done this fall sometime.

3) I need to get back to "Red House."  I still really want to have that finished by the end of August, but I'm going to have to pick up the pace something fierce on it.

4) I can finally import some of the newer music I've picked up into iTunes on the new computer.  Somehow that feels like a relief to me.

These are just a few things, of course, I could go on.  All told, I feel like things can get back to whatever passes for normal in my musical life.  Whether that's getting back to working on the practice binder, learning songs, improving my confidence with the instrument, trying to figure out GarageBand, etc.  I'm just excited to get back into some sort of rhythm.

Day Three

Short one today. I've got a bunch of the DVDs that Guitar World has put out. Waded through those to see what I had, worked off of the lead guitar one. Just basic scales , but still a light place to begin. It was nice to just start loosening up my fingers again. Off from work tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get a lot of playing done. Said I'd mention the other project I'm hoping to finish this year. Back when I was living in WI, I started a hard rock band with a friend of mine. She was heavily influenced by Evanescence, and so, with her as vocalist, we started writing songs. We had written and demoed almost a full album's worth of music by the time I moved to IA, and had even purchased a P.A. in preparation for eventual gigs. We never did find a permanent drummer or bassist, so our demos sound very rough (and not nearly loud enough). I'd like to finish those songs, and make an EP of the 4 or 5 strongest, just as a way to put a cap on that project. More tom...

Day One Hundred Forty Two

So, I haven't been sleeping much lately, and I've been staying up late. listening to music, doing a bit of playing, and watching old episodes of Behind The Music on the internet. It's funny, you know, because I never met the rest of my "band," I've become the critic. It's all right, don't get me wrong, but for a decade now I've always hoped that I'd find a way to release something. It'll happen, I know it will, but it's continually happened slower than I expected it to. I've gotten close to getting something released, as I've documented before here before, but with the winter coming and the cold closing in, I'm facing another chance to make something musical of the winter. I'm going to start by finishing up the old things that have gotten pushed to the sides in the last few months. With the buildup of everything since the summer, it should be easier. Day Three Hundred Fifty Seven (Year Seven)

Today was okay.  It ended up being quieter than I wanted it to be, but I got in a few things. 1.  I got the music from the car hauled in and sorted out in advance of my road trip to Dubuque for a little longer than a day.  I'm taking the Radiohead reissue with me for that, since I haven't gotten a chance to sit down with it yet. 2.  I'm also taking an empty notebook along with me, in the hopes that I might start to get some lyric ideas down on paper while I'm gone.  I watched some cool videos early this morning about the idea of writing all of the music before writing lyrics, and the way things are going that is looking like what's going on with me. 3.  I wish there had been more playing today, but I'm still feeling good about where things are sitting.  This next week needs to include a lot of writing.
