Some of my favorite musical moments are the stolen ones. The times in my week when I'm able to take a few spare moments here and there for something, anything musical.
Tonight it was taking three minutes and twenty one seconds before youth group craziness to listen to "100" by Brandi Carlile.
Monday it was sitting with the acoustic for a few moments before I taught, and just letting my fingers go where they may.
Yesterday it was those same fingers tracing out a scale I had gone over with my student the night before.
I think those moments border on the sacred because they're the moments when our true talents and connections really come out to play. They show us the beauty in what could be, in what's coming (we hope) on a regular basis soon, if only we keep at it. They're the moments I know I need to hang onto when the winter feels like it's closing in and progress feels hard to come by, because they're the moments of hope that always keep me coming back for more.
