So, suffice it to say that I wasn't expecting today to be a day filled primarily with listening and song ideas, but that's what I ended up with.
A friend here in the village loaned me Stephen Kellogg's Glassjaw Boxer. Told me it was incredible and that I must listen to it. I've got two other records by SK and his band, The Sixers, and in comparison to those records, Glassjaw Boxer feels like a much more cohesive effort. I listened to a lot of that today.
The part of the day that caught me off guard, however, was the time I spent in the studio tonight, sitting with an acoustic guitar in my lap, and looking for a place along the neck to place a capo. I went into it expecting to find a few cool licks, or maybe a couple of chords to string together and file away for later consideration. I came out of it with what felt like an intro progression and perhaps a chorus. As always, no lyrics of any kind, but the music is always encouraging.
Tomorrow I need to spend a lot more time in the studio, this time focused on studying, learning, and a bit more playing than happened today.
